How Do I Keep Going As A Doula When I'm Tempted To Throw In The Towel?

Just in case you’re wondering we are definitely channeling your inner Dori today! Just keep swimming! How do we keep going when we feel like quitting? How do we pick the towel back up after we throw it in? This is our speciality as doulas, right? We are excellent at coaching our clients through this, so need a dose of our own medicine in business!

The next best step is how my business coach likes to say this. Just take the next best step. You don’t need to know the next 100 steps down the road. In birth we sit in this present place every. Single. Contraction. It’s a place we help our clients stay and where we also sit comfortably throughout the birth and even postpartum process. BUT do we apply it to our businesses?

I remember the first time I needed a contract and I was like “oh sh*t, how the F do I write a contract??” And that feeling still comes up sometimes for me. It comes up as imposter syndrome from time to time. It sometimes just comes up in a funk when I feel stuck. But I don’t stay there long. I have friends and a coach to kick me in the butt and get me going again!

Pushing through this feeling is a lifelong lesson. Also distinguishing when it’s time to push and when it’s time to rest is another part of this that we’re honestly not digging into too deeply today. Today is about pushing. Keep swimming.

Key Takeaways:

  • Push forward. And have people on your team who can cheer you on!

  • Just take one more step. Not the next 100.

  • Affirm yourself! You got this!

  • I’d love to be your coach!
